ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture involves the placement of sterile, single-use needles into specific locations along the body’s energy pathways, known as meridians. By inserting these fine needles just below the skin, acupuncturists can clear energy blockages and encourage the normal, balanced flow of energy, known as chi, throughout the body. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the flow of chi directly affects the functioning of the body’s organs. When chi flows well, good health is maintained; but when blockages occur, pain and symptoms of illness develop. More than 400 acupuncture points have been identified all over the body. They run along the meridians, which correlate with the body’s organs. An acupuncturist identifies which points to target with needles in order to adjust and regulate the flow of chi in the areas relating to your health issues.

HERBAL MEDICINE

The origins of Chinese herbal medicine, and its natural and holistic approach to health care, date back more than 5000 years. It has been used effectively in mainstream health care in China during that time. More than 450 substances are commonly used in Chinese herbal medicine. Most comes from plant roots, seeds, leaves, flowers and fruit, though some come from animals and minerals. The effectiveness of Chinese herbal medicine comes from the strength of numerous herbs working together. Combined, the herbs strengthen
the body and support treatment.

NUTRITION

There is an abundance of evidence showing that people with healthy eating patterns feel mentally brighter and more physically vibrant, enhance their fertility and pregnancy outcomes, lower their risk for chronic health issues and live stronger and longer. Practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine consider food (which includes food-grade Chinese herbs) powerful medicine.  In fact nutrition was, originally, the first therapy used in Chinese Medicine to restore a patient’s healthy balance and prevent dis-ease.

Learning how nutrition can support your wellbeing is fascinating, empowering and effective.

CHI MOVEMENT

The slow and gentle movement patterns of chi kung and tai chi combine with clear intent, natural breathing and coordinated posture for the purpose of smoothing and circulating the flow of chi (energy or life force) throughout our bodies.  This smooth flow of chi, in turn, supports our body’s natural homeostatic power that keeps our inner organs working harmoniously. As a consequence of regular practice, we tend to feel lighter and happier, and we begin to resolve our pain, hypertension, fatigue and postural issues.

We also experience better balance, stronger immunity and an expanded awareness.  With enhanced awareness and stable energy flow, our minds become more sensitive, at ease and innovative.  We are less anxious and we sleep more deeply.  Essentially, our life flows more simply, creatively and harmoniously.

There are chi kung movements for all ages and conditions.

All that is required is a willingness to learn and sincerely practice.
